Neighborhood
Located about seven miles from downtown, North Denver extends from the Denver–Boulder Turnpike south to about 52nd Avenue, then east along I-76 to the South Platte River. This large area includes the smaller communities of Westminster, Berkley, Chaffee Park, Globeville, and North Washington. North Denver is picturesque and wooded, featuring several large lakes and mountain views. Cyclists have standout connectivity here: the US-36 Bikeway runs roughly 16–17 paved miles from Westminster to south Boulder and links at 80th Avenue to the Bradburn and Little Dry Creek trails, which connect east to the Clear Creek Trail and the South Platte River Trail for continuous, car-free riding into downtown Denver.
Residents in the northwest portion of North Denver enjoy easy access to Westminster Station, ideal for commuters, and to the Flatiron Flyer bus rapid transit, which provides direct service between Westminster and Boulder with express trips around 30 minutes. By car, Boulder is about 18 miles away, typically a 20–30 minute drive via US-36. Fitness options are abundant: Westminster’s City Park Recreation Center (full-size gym, racquetball, weight room) and City Park Fitness Center (cardio, strength, and group classes) anchor the area, and on the Denver side, the Scheitler Recreation Center at Berkeley Lake Park offers a pool and a full slate of programs. The area also features several shops and restaurants, including downtown Westminster, Alamo Drafthouse, King Soopers, and Spero Winery. Residents of North Denver enjoy picnics at Lowell Ponds State Wildlife Area, golfing at Willis Case Golf Course, and attending classes at Regis University.
